This gorgeous expression of a cinematic dreamscape was the very first film made for The Imaginarium Wonder Emporium. Created by founder K. Day who also starred in the film, it was meant to be a lesson about fairytales---the light and the dark sides. With wardrobes and props entirely from The Imaginarium, enacted and filmed by a group of San Antonio creatives who are both colleagues and friends.

The main heroine played by K. Day begins the film as an innocent, representative of the inner child and seemingly stumbling into a dream state. As curiosity ensues, enter the ego. She begins to search for magic and deeper meaning at which point her quest begins to take her down a dark rabbit hole of inner reflection. Choice is key here and we see her contorted and transformed the deeper she goes.
Representative of the Jungian shadow self is mystifying actress Lita Deadly, a dark mirror of our heroine and every bit a part of her. The ritual that takes place during the film is a pivotal moment when the main character attempts to conjur forth her shadow self, coming face to face with her own inner darkness.
Initially we witness a great change come over our heroine. As she wrestles with the confrontation, the ego is influenced strongly by the shadow self which translates as some secretive mischief.

The dance between the two sides of the self gets very dark until moments of clarity and sobriety usher in the integration of the two sides of the self.
It's a beautiful metaphorical and cerebral adventure. Relatable, unsettling and inspiring.

The Living Circus is the second film from The Imaginarium Wonder Emporium utilizing an entirely new production. A much larger project than the first, it enlisted the talent of 17 actors, many of whom are actual sideshow performers, children, individuals on the autism spectrum and all located in San Antonio. The film is strongly youth-led from the videographer Madison Eiland who is a college student to the child actors to composition for the film added by autistic teen, Keith Leach.
Created, directed and narrated by Imaginarium founder K. Day Gomez, The Living Circus is as much a dreamscape as the first TIWE film. Though much brighter and wholesome, this installment carries as much mischief, magic and self insight. |
The film opens to a curious Workshop as a toy maker works diligently at some goal the audience is unaware of...
